IMAGE GENERATION for Codex3¢ per image

Let Codexmake the images.

Codex picks the model that fits each image, not whichever one you hold a key for. Flux, Nano Banana, GPT Image and Grok, from 3¢. No provider account, no API key, no subscription.

What your agent can call.

Currently available through StableStudio. Your AI picks the one that fits and checks the exact price before it pays.

  • Generate an image

Choose an image model and resolution. Flux 2 Pro at 0.5 MP quoted 2¢ on 9 September 2026.

    3–21¢

01

Name the task

Tell your agent what the output needs to contain.

02

See the price

Ask for the provider and request quote before spending.

03

Review the response

Check the output against your task. The call reports its cost and remaining balance.

When to use it.

Shipping a feature

Finish the UI, not just the markup.

Codex builds the component and leaves a placeholder where the picture goes. Ask for the real asset in the same task, at a few cents, and the feature is finished when the task is.

Unattended tasks

Work that completes while you are away.

A Codex task running on its own cannot stop to ask you for artwork. With image generation in reach it finishes the job, and the prepaid balance is the ceiling on what it can spend.

Docs and READMEs

Illustrate what you just built.

Generate the header or diagram next to the code it explains, then vectorise it so it stays sharp in the README instead of blurring on a wide screen.

Good Questions.

Can Codex generate images?

Not on its own: Codex writes and runs code, and has no image model behind it. Give it one and it generates the asset in the same task that wrote the code, either with a provider API key of your own or with a pay-per-call balance like TaskFuel.

Do I need my own image API key for Codex?

No. One TaskFuel account and one prepaid balance covers it. TaskFuel pays the provider and bills your balance, so there is no second key to put in the environment Codex runs in.

What does an image cost in Codex?

From 3¢ with Flux 2 Pro up to 21¢ for GPT Image 2 at high quality. Nano Banana, Flux 2 Max and Grok Image are 7¢; Nano Banana Pro and GPT Image 1.5 are 13¢. Codex reads the exact price before it pays, so a long task cannot surprise you.

Which model should I use?

Nano Banana Pro at 13¢ when the image carries text, because it renders type most reliably. Flux 2 Pro at 3¢ while you are still working out the composition. At that price a dozen attempts cost less than one stock photo.

Can Codex edit an image already in the repo?

Yes. Every image model has a matching edit endpoint, so Codex can recolour an asset, drop a background or restyle a committed screenshot, and write the result back beside it.

Can Codex generate video too?

Yes, from the same balance. Sora 2 starts at 40¢, and the price is read before the call the same way it is for images.
