Can't my agent just look up a price for free?
For one BTC-in-dollars quote, yes. Free public endpoints answer that without a key, and so do a dozen exchange APIs. What the free path will not do is serve a run of calls without rate-limiting you, reach history older than 365 days, or open the endpoints that sit behind a paid plan. If your question is "what is BTC worth", do not pay 6¢ for it. If it is "give me every daily close since 2013" or "rank 250 coins right now", that is what this is for.
What does a call cost?
6¢ for every operation on this tool at the time of writing: a spot price and thirteen years of daily history cost the same. You pay per use: no subscription, no monthly minimum, and nothing charged for a month you do not call. Your AI reads the exact price from the provider before it pays, so the number you see in the conversation is always the current one.
Where does the data come from?
An established source, not anything TaskFuel scrapes together: the crypto data here comes from CoinGecko. Responses are passed through unchanged, so the coverage, fields and freshness are the same as going direct. What changes is that you pay 6¢ a call instead of picking a monthly plan.
Do I need a CoinGecko account or API key?
No. You need one TaskFuel account and one prepaid balance. TaskFuel pays for each call and bills your balance, so there is no CoinGecko plan or subscription to choose and no API key for your agent to hold.
What can it actually answer?
Historical and current prices, market caps and volumes, ranked market pages, per-coin profiles, tokens by contract address, exchange listings and rates, categories, trending coins, top gainers and losers, and global and DeFi market stats.
Can it watch a price for me?
Your AI can check again whenever you ask, and each check is billed separately. There is no standing subscription quietly polling in the background.
What if a lookup fails?
