Your agent has finished the job, and the person who needs to hear about it is not at a screen. A courier, a parent, a supplier in Lagos. The agent can write the message in a second. It cannot send it, because a text needs a provider account, a sender number, and in the US a registration form, and none of those are things an agent can sign up for.
That leaves one question worth answering before you wire anything up: what does one text actually cost, and where?
One text, 228 prices
We asked the same question of every country and territory on Sats4AI’s list. The message was 32 characters, Your confirmation code is 123456, one SMS segment anywhere. Each quote is the real price Sats4AI’s endpoint asked for that exact request, read through TaskFuel without paying. Nothing was sent.

The cheapest text on the list goes to Guam, at about a cent. Texts to US numbers, Guam included, wait in a queue and can take a few hours to arrive, so for the cheapest quick text, Canada at $0.016 is the better pick. The dearest goes to Sierra Leone, at just over a dollar, so the same 32 characters cost 95 times more depending on where they land. The median is 29 cents.
The pattern is roughly geographic, with exceptions. The US and Canada are under 2 cents, though other +1 numbers are not: Jamaica is 41. Western Europe sits between 6 and 15 cents. Much of Africa and South Asia costs 40 cents a text or more. Then there’s Thailand at 4 cents, cheaper than the UK, and India at 11. Only 39 countries came in under 10 cents.
Why the price moves
Sats4AI prices in satoshis, the smallest unit of bitcoin, and TaskFuel converts to dollars at the moment of the quote. On 14 October that worked out to one sat for about $0.00083. If bitcoin moves 10 percent, so does every number on this page.
Sats4AI also publishes its own per-country guide, in sats, inside its API spec. Our quotes landed within 5 percent of it for 214 of the 228 countries, and within 35 percent for all of them. So the guide is fine for a budget. To know what one text costs, quote it: it’s free, and it’s what your agent should do anyway.
One real text
Then we sent one. “The van will be there at 3”, to a Swiss mobile number of ours. The quote said $0.084, the charge was $0.084, and Sats4AI answered Okay sixteen seconds later.
It arrived inside the same minute, as:

Everything after the two dashes is Sats4AI’s signature line. Your message isn’t allowed to contain a link. Theirs is.
What’s still rough
- Abroad, the text comes from a name. In most countries outside +1, the text arrives from “Sats4AI” instead of a number, so the recipient can’t reply.
- US texts wait in a queue. A text to a US number, or to Guam, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands or American Samoa, can take a few hours to arrive. Texts to other countries, Canada included, go out right away.
- Every text carries a short signature line naming the service and a stop link. It fits inside the segment you pay for, but you don’t get to remove it.
- No links. A message containing a URL is rejected.
- Long messages and emoji cost more. Billing is per segment, and an emoji or any other character outside the basic GSM set switches the whole message to a smaller segment size. Common accents like é and ü are fine.
- Messages are screened after payment. Clear scams, threats and impersonation are held and not sent. A person reviews a held text for 1 sat at sats4ai.com/appeal, and an unresolved hold becomes refundable after 24 hours.
- One number gets at most 3 texts an hour and 8 a day, across all customers together. A normal errand fits. A campaign does not.
Why the limits: a Lightning payment proves nothing about intent, and Sats4AI holds no account or ID it could ban. So the rules protect the person receiving the text, who never agreed to it and can’t reply. One abuser could also get a shared sender name blocked for every honest customer.
When TaskFuel is worth it
My agent can do this alone. We gave the same prompt to Claude Code with no TaskFuel and no paid tools, and a test number. It couldn’t quote the text or send it. It found Twilio’s US price page and estimated 1.2 to 1.3 cents, then listed what it would need first: a sending number at $1.15 a month and US registration. A fair estimate, and still not a text.
A provider account is cheaper. Usually, yes. Twilio’s published price per segment in October 2026 was $0.0083 to the US (plus about half a cent in carrier fees), $0.056 to the UK, $0.0769 to Switzerland, $0.0832 to India, $0.112 to Germany and $0.3868 to Nigeria. That’s 8 to 26 percent below the quotes above. It also comes with an account, a number at $1.15 a month, and US registration before you can send anything. If you send hundreds of texts a month to one country, open the account. If your agent texts someone now and then, somewhere, per text wins on setup alone.
I can do it by hand. For one text to one person, your own phone is cheaper than all of this. The case for an agent is the text that has to go out while you’re not there.
Next time your agent needs to reach someone away from a screen, have it quote the text first. The quote is free, and it’s the only number on this page that won’t have moved by the time you read it.
