Firecrawl and Jina both turn a URL into text an agent can read. They differ in what comes back and what it costs.

Provider in the worked example: Firecrawl and Jina.

Price shown for this route: 0.5¢ per page.

## Compare Firecrawl and Jina.

TaskFuel includes Firecrawl and a keyless web reader that does the same job as Jina Reader. Direct accounts are shown for reference. We publish this comparison and sell access through TaskFuel.

Prices checked 5 November 2026.

| Option | Price and billing | Strength | Good to know | Available through TaskFuel |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Firecrawl (Direct provider account) | $19 / month. Monthly provider credits, billed monthly. Hobby: 5,000 credits a month. A basic scrape is 1 credit a page, and JSON format adds 4 credits. | Firecrawl’s own SDKs and monthly credit plans. | A separate Firecrawl account and API key to manage. JSON output costs 4 more credits a page. | No |
| Jina (Direct provider account) | Tokens by content length. Direct provider key; keyless use is rate limited. Reader without a key: 20 requests a minute. ## What it can do

### Firecrawl scrape

Firecrawl turns one public URL into Markdown. Our read of the Lisbon article returned about 25,700 words, 56 headings and 2,954 links.

Price: $0.0126 / page.

### Keyless web reader

One public URL as plain text, with a title and publish time. Our read returned about 17,200 words and no links.

Price: $0.005 / page.

## A real example

Tested on 2026-11-05 through Firecrawl and a keyless web reader.

We asked two readers for the Wikipedia article about Lisbon, one call each. Both returned the article text, including its population figure. Firecrawl returned Markdown with links, and the keyless reader returned plain text.

Your agent asked: Read the Wikipedia article about Lisbon and pull out the key facts

Returned in this test:

- Firecrawl: Markdown, about 25,700 words, 56 headings and 2,954 links. It opens with Capital and largest city of Portugal
- Keyless reader: Plain text, about 17,200 words and no links. It starts with the site menu and ends with footer links
- In both: The 2025 population figure from the article
- Per page: Firecrawl $0.0126, keyless reader $0.005
- Source: Lisbon on Wikipedia

Charged in this test: $0.0176.

One public article, one read per tool.

## Try the API request

Use your TaskFuel API key as TASKFUEL_API_KEY in your terminal or server. Keep it out of browser code.

### 1. Check the price

This request checks the price without paying. This is the exact Firecrawl request from the test. The keyless reader is a GET request with a url parameter.

```sh
curl --fail-with-body https://app.taskfuel.ai/v1/call \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $TASKFUEL_API_KEY" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data-binary @- <<'TASKFUEL_REQUEST'
{
  "url": "https://stableenrich.dev/api/firecrawl/scrape",
  "method": "POST",
  "body": {
    "url": "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisbon"
  },
  "dryRun": true
}
TASKFUEL_REQUEST
```

### 2. Run the request

Review amount_usd in the quote. To pay and run, change dryRun to false and add maxAmountUsd with that approved amount inside the same JSON object. Keep the inputs unchanged; this limit applies to one call.

### 3. Read the result

Read url, title and content. The content field holds the article as Markdown, links included.

## Connect your agent

Read the [setup guide](https://taskfuel.ai/docs/setup/) and choose the connection your agent supports.

Use one TaskFuel account and prepaid balance. Inspect the provider and request quote before a paid call, then review the returned response and recorded charge.

## When to use it

### Read an article as text.

Your agent sends an article URL and reads back its text, from the opening line to the population table.

### Follow links from the page.

Firecrawl returned the article as Markdown with 2,954 links, so an agent can follow them to other pages.

### Pay less for plain text.

In our test the text-only read cost under half of the Markdown read.

## Questions

### Do I need a Firecrawl or Jina account?

No. For the readers on TaskFuel, your agent pays from your TaskFuel balance. Jina itself is not in the catalog, which has Firecrawl and a keyless web reader.

### How do Firecrawl and Jina differ?

Both turn a URL into text for an agent. Jina Reader works by putting r.jina.ai in front of the URL and returns Markdown, with or without a key. Firecrawl is an API with its own account and credit plans.

### What does Firecrawl vs Jina cost?

Our Firecrawl read cost $0.0126 and the keyless reader $0.005 on 5 November 2026. Firecrawl’s direct Hobby plan costs $19 a month for 5,000 credits. Jina charges tokens by content length when you use a key.

### Is Jina available through TaskFuel?

Jina is not in the catalog. The catalog has Firecrawl and a keyless web reader for the same job.

### Which reader keeps links?

In our test Firecrawl kept 2,954 links in its Markdown. The keyless reader returned plain text with no links.

### Does the keyless reader remove the site menu?

Not in our test. Its text began with the site menu and ended with footer links.
