# Firecrawl alternative

Readable Markdown, paid per page.

Compare webpage extraction APIs for your agent. Try another engine or use Firecrawl through TaskFuel, paid from one balance.

The worked example uses Olostep. Firecrawl and ScrapeGraphAI are also available through TaskFuel from the same balance.

Provider in the worked example: Olostep via Orthogonal.

Price shown for this route: 1¢ per page.

## Compare Firecrawl and its alternatives.

TaskFuel offers the extraction providers below, including Firecrawl through StableEnrich. The direct Firecrawl plan is shown for context. We publish this comparison and sell access through TaskFuel.

Single-page extraction options and billing. Prices as of 30 October 2026. TaskFuel prices use the same Python documentation URL.

## What it can do

### Read one page with Olostep

Request Markdown from one public URL. Our test returned the Python guide’s headings, code examples and links within the Markdown.

Price: $0.01 / page.

### Use Firecrawl through StableEnrich

Send the single URL supported by this tool. Your agent shows the price before it calls, and the request format differs from a direct Firecrawl integration.

Price: $0.0126 / page.

### Choose a format with ScrapeGraphAI

Ask for Markdown, HTML or other documented formats. The price shown covers Markdown from the public Python guide with default fetch settings.

Price: $0.005 / page.

## A real example

Tested on 2026-10-30 through Olostep via Orthogonal.

We fetched Python’s virtual-environment guide so an agent could read its setup instructions. The response contained Markdown, section headings and the command examples from the source.

Your agent asked: Read the Python virtual environments guide as Markdown

Returned in this test:

- Guide: Virtual Environments and Packages
- Returned content: 11,456 characters of Markdown
- Command in source: python -m venv tutorial-env
- Source URL: https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/venv.html

Charged in this test: $0.01.

One public documentation page returned as Markdown, with navigation and relative links kept.

## Try the API request

Use your TaskFuel API key as TASKFUEL_API_KEY in your terminal or server. Keep it out of browser code.

### 1. Check the price

This request checks the price without paying. These are the exact inputs used for the example above: one URL and Markdown output. Quote again before executing; the test charge records what this request cost on the test date.

```sh
curl --fail-with-body https://app.taskfuel.ai/v1/call \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $TASKFUEL_API_KEY" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data-binary @- <<'TASKFUEL_REQUEST'
{
  "url": "https://mpp.orthogonal.com/olostep/v1/scrapes",
  "method": "POST",
  "body": {
    "url_to_scrape": "https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/venv.html",
    "formats": [
      "markdown"
    ]
  },
  "dryRun": true
}
TASKFUEL_REQUEST
```

### 2. Run the request

Review amount_usd in the quote. To pay and run, change dryRun to false and add maxAmountUsd with that approved amount inside the same JSON object. Keep the inputs unchanged; this limit applies to one call.

### 3. Read the result

Read result.markdown_content for the page text and url for its source. The test returned source code examples as escaped Markdown.

## Connect your agent

Read the [setup guide](https://taskfuel.ai/docs/setup/) and choose the connection your agent supports.

Use one TaskFuel account and prepaid balance. Inspect the provider and request quote before a paid call, then review the returned response and recorded charge.

## When to use it

### Give your agent the source text.

Extract a guide or reference page when the task needs its actual content.

### Choose the tool by its contract.

Compare the supported input fields and output formats. Your agent shows a new price when you add formats or change fetch settings.

### Pull a setup guide into a task.

Our test returned Python’s virtual-environments guide as 11,456 characters of Markdown, with its command examples intact.

## Questions

### What is a useful Firecrawl alternative for an AI agent?

Olostep and ScrapeGraphAI offer different extraction tools through TaskFuel. Our Olostep test returned a public documentation page as Markdown. Choose a tool by its supported formats and the output you need.

### Can I use Firecrawl itself through TaskFuel?

Yes. Your agent pays from your TaskFuel balance, so there is nothing else to sign up for. The Firecrawl tool on this page scrapes one URL per request, while a direct Firecrawl account offers its full feature set.

### Does Firecrawl have a free plan?

Firecrawl lists 1,000 credits per month on its Free plan, checked 30 October 2026. Its monthly Hobby plan lists $19 for 5,000 credits. If the free allowance and direct API fit your work, they may be enough.

### Are these prices comparable to a Firecrawl subscription?

The direct plan buys a monthly credit allowance, while TaskFuel charges per request: our test extraction cost $0.01 on 30 October 2026. A lower number alone does not tell you which setup suits your workload. Your agent shows the price for your own request before it pays.

### Can these tools crawl an entire website?

Providers may offer separate crawl APIs, which this page does not cover. Your agent can find a crawl tool and check its page limits and billing before starting it.

### Can they handle JavaScript, private pages or blocked websites?

Our example used a public documentation page. Signed-in content, paywalls, blocked websites and JavaScript-heavy applications were not tested.

### Is this a drop-in replacement for my Firecrawl integration?

Your agent can switch, but each tool has its own inputs and response format, so it adapts the request and parsing and keeps the source URL with the extracted text.
