# Let Codex read the market.

Building anything that touches crypto means finding data before you can test it. Price history, the ranked market, the day's movers, 6¢ a call. No CoinGecko account of your own.

Provider in the worked example: CoinGecko.

Price shown for this route: 6¢ per call.

## Connect your agent

Read the [Codex setup guide](https://taskfuel.ai/docs/setup-cli/).

Use one TaskFuel account and prepaid balance. Inspect the provider and request quote before a paid call, then review the returned response and recorded charge.

## When to use it

### Test against real numbers.

A price chart built on mock data looks fine until the first real payload. Let Codex pull the actual series while it writes the component.

### History without a data vendor.

Pull the range you need at 6¢ a call and let Codex write the backtest around it, instead of starting with a procurement conversation.

### Nothing to leak.

There is no CoinGecko key to add to the environment a task runs in, because TaskFuel holds the provider relationship.

## Questions

### Can Codex get crypto prices?

Not on its own. Connect TaskFuel and it calls CoinGecko as a tool, 6¢ a call, with no key of your own and no free-tier rate limit to work around.

### Do I need a CoinGecko API key?

No. One TaskFuel account and one prepaid balance covers it. TaskFuel pays the provider and bills your balance.

### What does a call cost?

6¢ for market chart, top gainers and losers, coins markets, coin history, categories and coin data. The price is read before it pays.

### Can it place trades?

No. This is market data, not an exchange connection. Codex can write the strategy and feed it real numbers; moving money is still yours to wire up.

### What if a call fails?

Upstream 4xx and 5xx responses are not charged. A successful provider response can still be charged when its answer is empty or unhelpful.
