# Carrier lookup API

See the line type before choosing a channel.

Your agent can read a phone number’s carrier and line type. Our public example number returned LiveWire Telecom and fixed VoIP; reachability fields were empty.

One public example number. Carrier/type data does not establish owner identity, current reachability or message delivery.

Provider in the worked example: BlockRun / Twilio Lookup.

Price shown for this route: 1.1¢ per lookup.

## Compare the two access paths.

The same underlying data family can be used through a direct Twilio account or from a TaskFuel task.

Prices and access checked on 6 November 2026.

| Option | Price and billing | Strength | Good to know | Access |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| BlockRun / Twilio Lookup (Through TaskFuel) | $0.011 / lookup. Per request from your TaskFuel balance. One public example number, including carrier and line type. | One carrier lookup from the same balance as your other paid tools. | The example leaves reachability and identity fields empty. | TaskFuel |
| Twilio Lookup (Direct provider account) | $0.008 / lookup. Direct pay-as-you-go billing. Line Type Intelligence price. ## What it can do

### Read carrier and line type

Return the carrier name, country, formatting and line-type intelligence. The example returned fixedVoip.

Price: $0.011 / tested lookup.

## A real example

Tested on 2026-11-06 through BlockRun / Twilio Lookup.

The response returned a carrier, fixed-VoIP classification and a validity flag. Line status and identity fields were empty.

Your agent asked: Read the carrier and line type for the public example number +15005550006

Returned in this test:

- Input: Public example number +15005550006
- Carrier: LiveWire Telecom, LLC
- Line type: fixedVoip
- Validity / line status: valid: true; line_status: null

Charged in this test: $0.011.

One public example number. Carrier/type data does not establish owner identity, current reachability or message delivery.

## Try the API request

Use your TaskFuel API key as TASKFUEL_API_KEY in your terminal or server. Keep it out of browser code.

### 1. Check the price

This request checks the price without paying. The exact request used in the dated example.

```sh
curl --fail-with-body https://app.taskfuel.ai/v1/call \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $TASKFUEL_API_KEY" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  --data-binary @- <<'TASKFUEL_REQUEST'
{
  "url": "https://blockrun.ai/api/v1/phone/lookup",
  "method": "POST",
  "body": {
    "phoneNumber": "+15005550006"
  },
  "dryRun": true
}
TASKFUEL_REQUEST
```

### 2. Run the request

Review amount_usd in the quote. To pay and run, change dryRun to false and add maxAmountUsd with that approved amount inside the same JSON object. Keep the inputs unchanged; this limit applies to one call.

### 3. Read the result

Read line_type_intelligence.carrier_name and line_type_intelligence.type. A valid flag is separate from line_status, caller identity and whether a message can be received.

## Connect your agent

Read the [setup guide](https://taskfuel.ai/docs/setup/) and choose the connection your agent supports.

Use one TaskFuel account and prepaid balance. Inspect the provider and request quote before a paid call, then review the returned response and recorded charge.

## When to use it

### Attach the returned line type.

Your agent can add the carrier and line-type fields to a reviewed contact record.

### Distinguish mobile, landline and VoIP.

The line type is one input to channel selection. This lookup sends no message and places no call.

## Questions

### What does the carrier lookup API return?

The tested response contained carrier name, country, formatted number and line type. It classified the example number as fixedVoip.

### Is a valid number necessarily reachable?

The validity flag was true while line_status was null. This test establishes returned formatting and line-type data, with no message or call placed.

### Does this identify the owner or detect fraud?

Identity match, caller name, SIM swap and risk fields were empty in this response. The page demonstrates carrier and line type only.

### When is Twilio’s direct API a better fit?

Twilio lists Line Type Intelligence at $0.008 per request, below this TaskFuel test’s $0.011 charge. Its direct API suits a dedicated integration with Twilio credentials. Canadian numbers require separate NPAC approval for this data.

### What did the carrier lookup cost?

The example cost $0.011 on 6 November 2026. Your agent shows the price for your own request before it pays.

### Do I need a separate carrier-data account?

No. Your agent pays from your TaskFuel balance, so there is nothing else to sign up for.
